Life Span

Butterflys are known to have a short life span but it differs from specie to specie. Adult butterflys can live up to a week to a year depending on its species. Butterflys may have one or more generations per year.

Migration

Many butterflys migrate over long distances. Particularly, Monarch butterflys are known for their massive migration from North America to Mexico during the beginning of autumn until the first frost. They travel for over 4000 kilometers.

Butterflys being such beautiful creates could not escape the eyes of many artists, painters, musicians and poets. They have been widely used in decorative objects and jewelry. They have been preserved and mounted in frames, displayed in bottles, laminated on paper and used in various other forms of artwork.

Butterflys have distinct characteristic due to which they are related to numerous symbolisms in different cultures. Some cultures believe that butterflys personify a person’s soul. In Chinese culture, two butterflys flying together symbolize love. It also refers to rebirth or new life in some old cultures because of its life starting from a cocoon.
