Butterfly Habitat
Butterflies are usually found in natural surroundings such as fields, forests, and also in residential areas, especially in gardens and yards. They are mainly seen in tropical regions and they prefer warm weathers. Most of the butterflies are day fliers, and just cannot escape your attention at any given time of the day.
Habitat
Butterfly habitat comprises of sunny and warm areas, open fields and meadows. They do not thrive in windy and rainy weathers. Their skin is so delicate that they will be torn apart in such conditions. Butterflies preferably like to reside in marshy lands, as these places are the best sources of nutrients for them.
* Wetlands: Wetlands are considered to be natural habitat for butterflies as they draw a lot of their nutrients from the upper surface of these lands.
* Meadows: Butterflies love to be amongst different kinds of colorful plants, grasses and flowers. The density of these plants allows them to nest, and the colors attract them during their mating season. The butterflies lay their eggs on plant leaves. They get their nourishment by drinking the nectar from the flowers. Butterflies are attracted to any flowers growing from spring through fall.
* Forests: This is another favorite butterfly habitat. They prefer open woodlands and not dense forests. Butterflies usually come here to shelter themselves from harsh sunlight and wind as their skin is very sensitive to these conditions. The caterpillars usually nettle in this kind of habitat.
* Gardens: This is a man-made butterfly habitat. Your own backyard and house gardens can be a habitat for butterflies. Different types of plants attract these creatures. The most common visitors to these places are skippers and monarchs. Even herbs such as rosemary, mind and lavender attract butterflies. This is a best place to have flowery plants where the butterflies can derive their nectar. Root gardens vegetable plants can be a wonderful place for caterpillars to feed on.
Butterflies have to keep regulating their body temperatures. They cannot fly until their body temperature is 86 degrees Fahrenheit, as a result of which you may sometimes find them resting on stones or rocks.
Butterfly habitats must include flowery plants, shrubs and grass. They get nourishment from the nectar of the flowers. The host plant may differ for caterpillars and adult butterflies.
Today, many natural butterfly habitats have been destroyed because of pesticides and construction sites.
