Body Language Signs
It is no doubt that what people feel and say are most often not the same, which is why being able to read a person’s body language signs will help you understand how someone is feeling. The reason being, body language signs are a form of non-verbal communication that are displayed unconsciously between people in the form of body poses, gestures, eye movements, head movements and so on. According to studies and researches approximately 60 to 70% of the information received between individuals is from their body language signs. It is also useful in providing individuals with an indication as to the attitude or state of mind a person is in at the time.
Understanding body language signs is a very vast topic in itself and will definitely have a goal other than just a method of communication. The basic understanding of body language signs is by the frequent gestures made by the head, eyes, upper body and lower body. Also the open gestures that are normally displayed when an individual shows signs of interest and the closed gestures that are generally displayed by timid, shy people who create a barrier between the individual. Although the ability to break these barriers is a form of reading and understanding body language signs in order for an individual to relate and respond to them.
The body language signs illustrated by the head are quite understandable to some people such as the tilted head that shows interest in something or someone in particular. The ‘too much nodding’ is definitely seen in classrooms and lecture halls that implies the listener has lost interest and isn’t really listening but just being polite by simply nodding. Placing their hand on their cheek is a general sign that the individual is thinking or evaluating. Slightly rubbing the nose or touching it is a sign of doubt or rejection.
The easiest body language signs are displayed by the eyes because as we all know, failing to look the individual in the eye is displaying lack of confidence or truth whilst the very opposite displays self assurance. When someone looks upwards and to the right it is an indication that they are recalling a memory but looking upwards and to the left implies that the creative and imaginative section of their brain is being used.
The upper body and lower body signs are mostly in relation to the posture. Such as crossed arms is a usual sign of forming a barrier between the individual and its surroundings because they don’t approve of what is being said or done. Hands placed behind the back imply a relaxed and comfortable attitude. Walking in an upright posture depicts confidence in an individual.
