Wood Bats
Some leagues always prefer wood bats rather than aluminum ones for various reasons. When you use aluminum bats you can hit the ball with great speed because these bats are lighter in weight. But this is not possible with wood bats. As using aluminum bats makes the breaking of old records played with wood bats, some leagues do not allow its usage.
The wood bats have its place in the baseball industry all the time. But they are quite expensive than their alloy counterparts. They are also little heavier than the aluminum ones and so some think it difficult to use the wood bats. However these days, with the enhanced technology, the wood bats are also made weightless and one could select them if they want.
In non professional leagues you can find alloy bats used in large number but the professional players always feel a kinship with the natural wood bats. If you want to purchase a wood bat, you have to carefully hold it by its handle. Then you must check to see if the shape and size would suit your needs. You may also have to see if the handle would offer you that grip that you would expect from wood bats.
Usually the wood bats are made from maple or ash woods. However you have these bats made of different quality and types of woods. As the furniture is made of plethora of wood qualities, so are the bats. If the wood is of higher quality, you can get the strength and hardness that you may expect without heavy weight. Most players prefer wood bats made of maple.
Some think that maple is good for making wood bats while others believe in ash wood or birch. The bats made of maple will be expensive than that made of ash because of the high price of the wood. You may also get affordable wood bats made of bamboo or birch. The wood bats are even made of hickory and oak. The bamboo bats are quite popular in Southeast Asia. The bamboos are held together by enhanced adhesive technique and are laminated to get the wood bats.
Sometimes the wood bats are also made with metal handles and amateur players like to play with such hybrid bats. The choice of type of bats to play with is up to one’s individual decision. One may even like to experiment with different types of bats made of different materials. Some like to play with maple bats in colder months and ash bats in summer. The choice is yours.
