Porcelain Tile
Picking out the right tiling for your bathroom or kitchen can be an arduous experience. With so many materials to choose from, it's hard to know which materials are durable enough to last for years to come while still looking beautiful. Fortunately, porcelain tile is a material that is both beautiful and durable enough to suit almost any backsplash.
Why are porcelain tile backsplashes so popular? For one, they come in a variety of colors and textures, which makes them easy to match with the counter tops, flooring, cupboards, and walls. If you enjoy the look of certain natural stones, but can't afford them, using imitation porcelain tiles is a more affordable alternative that will give you the natural style you're looking for. The wide range of styles typical of porcelain tile backsplashes also means that they are easy to match with other colors and motifs in your kitchen.
You also have the choice between glazed or unglazed tiles. While both looks are charming in their own way, a decided advantage of using glazed porcelain tiles for backsplashes is that, unlike with tiled flooring, you don't have to worry about the possibility of chipping or slipping.
On a more practical note, porcelain tile backsplashes are heat resistant, stain resistant, and even resilient toward bacteria, which is a must for any kitchen. As a result, you can install them on virtually any wall in your kitchen, whether it's over a counter top or behind the stove.
As for maintenance, porcelain tile backsplashes are amazingly easy to clean. Oftentimes simple soap and water is enough to keep the surface clean. For stubborn stains, using a sponge or other common scrubber will be enough to remove clinging contaminants, but avoid using cleaning tools that are too abrasive. While most common household cleaners are mild enough to use safely, be sure to avoid products that contain ammonia or bleach, as these may sap the color from your tiles.
Also keep in mind that some cleaners that contain heavy dyes may alter the color of your tiles. If you're concerned about preserving the look of your tiles, using a solution of water and white vinegar should be more than enough to sterilize your surface. You will need a different cleaner to scrub at the grout. When you do, be absolutely sure that this cleaner does not touch the porcelain tile. With proper care and regular cleaning, your porcelain tile backsplash will last for years to come.
